One of the five most stunning posts on Social Media: Trijntje Oosterhuis

02/01/2014 00:00

Trijntje Oosterhuis, a Dutch singer and member of the jury of 'The Voice of Holland', also used Social Media for a donation to Giro 555. She posted on her Facebook and Twitter account that for every like on her Facebook account, she would donate 1€. The Dutch liked it massively and she got more than 200000 likes. She totally underestimated the power of Social Media and she couldn't afford to pay 200000€. So Mrs. Oosterhuis said she wouldn't pay the full 200000€, but she would give generously.

This article on the Dutch website Elsevier, tells us exactly what happend. The introduction says:

"The Dutch have collected 18.5 million euros for the Philippines, but maybe a large amount will be added to it. Singer Trijntje Oosterhuis promised to donate 1€ for all the likes on her Social Media posts and just the likes on Facebook she got more than 200000 likes."

Some people think that this artist has underestimated the power of Social Media, others think that her accounts on the Social Media were hacked. Since Trijntje replied to her posts that she would donate money, it seems that she uploaded her posts herself.

Further, whenever you search 'Trijntje Oosterhuis Giro 555' on Twitter, you get tweets that show the following link: https://mwnw.nl/blog/2013/11/19/schandaal-trijntje-oosterhuis-verdient-grof-geld-aan-giro-555-actie-36674

This website says that Mrs. Oosterhuis earns money with her posts on Facebook. She posted her call for her likes via SOL (Social Opinion Leaders). To explain what the SOL does, a quote from the marketing-PDF what is shown in the text below, will be translated:

Social Opinion Leaders are the new producers, and publish daily unique articles which is being followed closely. To use the Social Media as useful as possible, is the content as widely as possible published.

The article also claims that:

Trijntje has 2 advertisements, for 1 advertisement; the price is 35€ CPM. CPM are the Costs Per Mille and means that per thousand views, SOL gets 35€. From the contract of SOL, the information of Trijntje having a 50/50 deal with SOL. Mrs. Oosterhuis would earn around:

(Assuming 250000 views) 250000 x 35€ / 1000 / 2 = 4375€. THIS CALCULATION IS INACCURATE AND CANNOT BE TRUE AND COLDHARD EVIDENCE.

We can however not say that this article is completely reliable.

This is another example of the Social Media being used for the Philippines but didn't turn out very well.
